Calla Lily 馬蹄蓮

Calla Lily 馬蹄蓮

Calla Lily
2003 / Total: 9 pieces / Not exhibited except the piece dedicated to the medical workers

This is the only portfolio of flowers I have done so far. In fact, I started with birds and flowers while learning Chinese painting at a young age, but turned to city life after picking up my painting brushes again.
Calla lily was rarely seen when I was young. I knew it quite late but came to like it fondly. I once bought a cluster of Calla lilies and made sketches of it almost every day for nearly a whole month. Later, I turned my sketches into eight continuous pieces of brush-and-ink painting, from day 1 to day 25.
Another cluster of Calla lilies was painted and exhibited in 2003 as a tribute to the medical workers for what they had done during that year’s SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) outbreak. – FS

People who gave the most during the 2003 SARS epidemic were the medical workers. [See Hong Kong 2003 in Portfolio.]
