New Publication: THREE YEARS In EXILE – A real-life story with 139 sketches

The author’s exile started in late September 2020, three months after the imposition of the draconian National Security Law in Hong Kong. It was the time of a global pandemic – the outbreak and spreading of the deadly Covid-19. After uprooting himself from Hong Kong, he has experienced hardship and difficulties nearly all the time. While struggling to adapt to a life in a different environment with limited means, he spent his spare time recording what he had encountered in the form of sketches. In three years, he first stayed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and then relocated to London. Moving repeatedly in London, he came up with the idea of compiling a book, a pictorial album, with his sketches. Explanatory notes were written to accompany the sketches, recalling mainly what he felt while compiling them, and are included in this book.

Over the past few years, half a million Hongkongers have left their home city, and more than 200,000 have come to the UK. Many of them might have experienced much more hardship than the author/artist and will easily relate their experience to his story.

All materials for this book were ready in 2023, but, for various reasons, the book project was halted for more than two years. With the help of supportive friends, it was eventually revived in late 2025. – FS

2020年九月底，國安惡法強加於香港後，作者離港，流徙海外。時兇勢危，加上新冠癘疫禍害全球，流徙實屬行險。離散期間，作者經歷了不少艱困，但仍斷斷續續地繪畫。限於媒材，他只作速寫，題材則來自流離歲月中的生活。離港三年，他曾暫住北愛爾蘭的貝爾法斯特，之後移居倫敦。他在倫敦一再遷居，累積的速寫漸增，於是計劃結集出書，加配文字，錄寫其所見所思，題之為《流離紀事》。

香港因近年局勢逆變，已有五十萬人外移，其中二十萬移到英國，他們很多人經歷的艱困，相信會比此書作者更多，對此書的内容當有共鳴。

此書圖文於2023</span年底已經完成，但基於種種原因，延宕了兩年多才出版。這次能夠出書，實在有賴朋友的支持。– FS

1. September 2020. Arriving at Heathrow. The beginning of the exile, in a very bad time of the Covid-19 pandemic. 大疫期間，開始流離，抵達希斯路機場。

2. December 2020. A “double” lockdown — due to the pandemic and the cold weather — at a “borrowed place” in Belfast. 借得一寓，避疫及過冬，蟄居貝城。

3. September 2021. Message received before relocating to London – a police raid in Hong Kong. Artwork on loan seized. 收到朋友短訊，傳來的附圖是港警抄走畫作。

4. February/March. Early spring in London. The colour of the daffodil is very uplifting. 倫敦冬盡，繁花報春。
